This work depicts a pine tree, as painted on the panel of a Noh stage. The motif is the "Kagemuki no Pine" that grows at Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara, and it is said that Kasuga Daimyojin descended in the form of an old man and performed the Banzairaku dance. Kyogen performer Okura Yataro Chitora actually danced in front of this piece. The trunk grows powerfully, undulating from the earth, and each powerful leaf is carefully painted pointing towards the sky.
